Hurricane I 504 Squadron France
Another E-Bay Find. A crash landed Hurricane I (TM-I, P2637) being examined by Wehrmacht troops. Can anyone provide more details?
Below is a link that shows this Hurricane as part of 504 SQ. http://www.rafweb.org/Members%20Page...al%20Units.htm Last edited by kaki3152; 27th November 2015 at 17:59. |

Re: Hurricane I 504 Squadron France
Carlos,
Another great find. AFAIK the first of this aircraft to show the serial. I have seen another view taken from the other side with a wood in the background but the serial is unreadable. The 'obvious' loss - but nothing is obvious when dealing with BoF losses ! - is the unidentified 504 Squadron Hurricane lost on 20 May 1940. It was piloted by P/O B.E.G. White who was wounded when he had to crash-land after being damaged by ground fire. See 'THE BATTLE FOR FRANCE, THEN AND NOW' by Peter Cornwell. There should be an AIR 81 casualty file for this loss but maybe I missed it on the AIR 81 index. The Air-Britain 'P1000-R9999' lists only 504 Squadron and 'No Further Trace ' for its fate. The detailed 504 Squadron F.541 for April 1940 does not show P2637 with them for that month. Unfortunately there is no F.541 for May 1940 and I did not check June. Regards, Martin Gleeson. |

a photo of the other side is here
http://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Hurricane...ce-1940-01.jpg If it helps, It is an early P**** serialed aircraft, 1st Gloster production batch, http://www.k5083.mistral.co.uk/APS.HTM fitted with a Hurricane type De Havilland propeller http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/i...dellers-guide/ and pole aerial. Metal wings. Questions about this were asked on Britmodeller as well. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/i...e-losses-1940/ |
