Nightfigher claim 4 May 1944

Morning all, on the 4th of May 1944, Lancaster ND881 of 405 Squadron was lost to nightfigher near Montdiddier. One of the aircrew lost was P/O M A Burnaby who pre war worked for Hampshire Constabulary as a messenger / clerk who I am researching on behalf of the force history society.
Can anyone assist me with details of the nightfigher pilot who claimed this aircraft?
Del.

Re: Nightfigher claim 4 May 1944

Hello,

the German night fighters shot down approx. 42 four engined bombers in this night. So it is very difficult to match this to a certain night fighter. Perhaps Theo Boiten can more precise this assignment.

Rgds,
Kaczmarek

Not sure but could this have been the one shot down by Starck of I/SKG 10?

Hello Del,

I have four possible NJ claimants for this aircraft -can only narrow this further down if a precise time of the crash can be found, which I don't have yet. Do you perhaps?

Cheers,Theo

Re: Nightfigher claim 4 May 1944

Hello Theo,
According to the details I have, the Lancaster was shot down whist still over the target, and crashed on the north side of the airfield. I have the timings as between 00.16 and 00.29.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Del.

Thanks Del -it does look like a match with the Starck claim that Chris pointed out already.

Cheers, Theo
