YER-2 Utility Version

Are there details on how many YER-2 were used as VIP transports
during WWII and to what air regiment they belonged ?

Re: YER-2 Utility Version

Nice photo

Not much has been written about Vladimir G Yermolayev's Bartini inspired bomber at least not in the west....
According to Bill Gunston, 2 aircraft of the Yer-2ON (Osobogo Naznachyeniya or special assignment) was built in Jan 1944 and assigned to the Government leadership. All armament and military equipment were removed. Extra fuel tanks were installed in the bomb bay. Up to 12 pax could be carried. A third aircraft is reported to have been modified to civil standard already in 1941 for shuttle back and forth between Irkutsk and Moscow.

Not much, but perhaps a start?...
Cheers

Re: YER-2 Utility Version

Hi Stig

Thanks for the update , interesting that the cockpit was slightly modified
and may have carried two pilots rather than one unlike on the bomber version,
also there are rumours was equipped with high octane avgas rather Diesel engines.

There is little known about this version which may have been modified at Jukovsky.

Cheers

Re: YER-2 Utility Version

Thanks Alekx

Your photo was in fact the first one I can recall seeing of this version.
Can't think of any other sources in my possession.

Hopefully someone else can contribute.
How many Yer-2 was built in total?

Cheers
Stig

Re: YER-2 Utility Version

Sorry for highjacking the tread but
have anyone info how the very late Yer-2s carried their 5 tonnes max bomb load? According to how I interpreat Gordon's text in his Soviet Combat Aircraft of the Second World War and in his Soviet Air Power Yer-2 could carry 2 tonnes internally and the earlier versions could carry extra two 1 tonne bombs under wing roots. So that makes four tonnes. Did the VVS had 1500 kg bombs or how the last model of Yer-2 carried its 5 tonnes max bomb load?

TIA
Juha

Juha,
From the data on Er-2 with engines ACh-30B (diesel):
"The average outer holder Der-19 - allowed to transport the bomb 1*FAB-2000; Two wing outer holders - 2*FAB-1000.
Maximum caliber bombs internal suspension - 4*FAB-500, other options included the transportation of 20*FAB-100 or 8*FAB-250 on a cassette holders KD-2 and KD-3."
This modification was produced from the second half of 1944.
The crew was 5 people, including two pilots.

Best regards,
Kirill

Just by chance the uncle of my wife served in a YER-2 air regiment , according to him
YER-2 ( bomber version ) did never carry 2 pilots , if you reffer to the transport version, by
the end of the war and beyond this is something I could agree with. Personally , I would like
to see a cockpit photo of the bomber matching your statements designed for two pilots
and eventually the Russian source of your info just in case you don't have one. Attached
last bomber version 1945 . By the way Vadim ( uncle of my wife ) is still alive and well.

PS : Standing right Lt.Vadim P , 328th BAP, he served as ground crew

researcher111,
the uncle wife of yours served in a Yer-2 air regiment? what was regiment? Version with two pilots appeared during series production Yer-2 diesels from August-September ? 1944 - at the request of the pilots of ADD. It's came in new regiments with the numbers 3хх (for example to 328 AP DD 18 GAD DD). The second pilot sat on the right below in the housing, and place of the Navigator pushed forward. A little later (autumn 1944) was upgraded glazing of the cockpit is simplified and widened (for two).

Re: YER-2 Utility Version

Please review my previous msg there is no point to repeat . Please post
the cockpit shot designed for two pilots
. The one who sat on the dome
was a navigator and not a pilot , period. Attached the transport version.

Posting stuff from Russian Internet is great however is not reflecting
how it was

PS : by December 1944 was renamed 328 BAP
