Unit symbol for KG66 needed! - Luftwaffe and Allied Air Forces Discussion Forum

I am after a picture of the KG66 unit symbol that adorned the side of their aircraft (if there was one)

Hi,

With regard to I/KG66, there wasn't any! Even as their self appointed unit historian, I'm not sure why they didn't have one: Maybe their Gruppekommandeur Major Hermann Schmidt did not think it was important or maybe at that stage of the war (I/KG66 was founded in 1943) the time for such niceties was over.

As far as III/KG66 is concerned, they didn't have one either IIRC.

Hi,
As far as I can ascertain, this was not unprecedented. I have never seen a photo of a NJG 5 or 6 aircraft with a unit crest.
