15 August 1940

Hi guys

I am unaware if this has been discussed before on this Forum, but I note an anomaly when comparing The Battle of Britain Then & Now with Jochen Prien's Teil 4/II regarding I/JG54 for 15 August 1940.

BoB has two pilots if 2/JG54 as having been shot down and killed (probably in combat with 266 Squadron) at circa 1900, namely Ltn Gerlach/Gorlach and Fw Schnaar, while Prien does not show these losses at all.

Would someone kindly enlighten me, please.

Have a nice one

Brian

Re: 15 August 1940

Hi

Fw. Schnarr died after a combat in the morning, Lt. Gerlach was missing in the second sortie. Gerlach was the Adjutant of the I./JG 54 for a short time.

Greetings Christian

Re: 15 August 1940

Hello:

According to the EoE LW Loss DB:
"15 August 1940: Stab I./JG54 Messerschmitt Bf109E-4. Shot down in combat with enemy fighters over the Channel. FF Lt Ferdinand Gerlach (Gruppenadjutant) missing. Aircraft 100% write-off."

I'm trying to create extremely detailed color profiles for the aircraft of Stab I./JG54 during 1940, and am having trouble finding references, other than the a/c of the Gr Kdr, Hptm Hubertus von Bonin, whose a/c during the 1940 WC and BoB are pretty well documented photographically. I know of one photo of what appears to be the starboard side of the Adj 109E of I./JG54, possibly Gerlach, coming in for a landing, but it is a poor reference photo for a profile. Does anyone know of any other photos of Stab I./JG54 aircraft during 1939-40 period that might help me fill the gaps in the Stab I./JG54 profile series during this period?

Thanx,

Re: 15 August 1940

Hello,

Does anyone know when Gerlach became the I./JG54 Adjutant, and who his predecessor and successor was?

Thanx,

Re: 15 August 1940

I have his successor as Oberlt Willi BREUER who was Gruppenadjutant until Mar 1942.
