Photos from the recovery of an Arado Ar196 A3 (Werknummer 216)
A German Arado Ar 196 seaplane, which was lost on February 28, 1944, at a depth of about 480 meters between Naxos and Ikaria islands in the Aegean Sea, Greece, was the unexpected catch of a fishing boat.

Your aircraft is Ar 196A-3 W.Nr. 216 that was forced to make a landing in open sea due to fire in the engine off Nikaria island. During salvage attempts the plane capsized and sank. No casualties was reported. The identification letter are not known, so they may be found on the wreck. The parent unit was 1./126 so it should be D1+ - H.
