20mm spent cases

Did the 20mm spent shell cases eject from under the wings of the BF109e or were they collected in a container in the wings after they were fired ?

Also on different note, the MG17 carried in the tail cone of some HE111's often shown in Battle of Britain downed HE pictures, i assume it was belt feed but how many rounds ? and did they actually get any results with it ?

They were ejected through an opening in the bottom of the wing, near the root. I've a picture somewhere.

The links and cases from the gondola mounted cannon on later 109s were also ejected, however the nose mounted weapons had special containers attached to the firewall which collected both parts.
