29 March 1944 - Me-109 identities

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to learn the identity of the unit flying Me-109s encountered by the 4th Fighter Group in the Gifhorn-Brunswick area on 29 March 1944. On a mission in which the vast majority of Luftwaffe fighters engaged by the 4th were FW-190s, several combat reports make mentioned of a specific group of a dozen Me-109s which were a "weathered silver with red spinners" spotted between 1330 and 1430.

The 4th did claim some 109s on this day, but it is not clear if any from this particular formation were among them.

Just looking to put a name or unit number to these guys as their appearance elicited several comments from the 4th pilots.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

The likely candidates would seem to be I/JG3 and IV/JG3, as well as the Stab of JG11.

Hi kb,

Thanks for responding. I'll start looking in that direction.
