Spitfire PT847 340 Sqn
Hi All,
Who can tell me the exact crashsite of Spitfire PT847, 340 Squadron, which crash-landed on November 8th 1944 in enemy territory on ramrod 1372 (Düren, Jülich and Heinsburg). Michel

Henk had the following.
"PT847 340 Sqdn '2Y-S' Ramrod 1372 S/Lt Lorand, M. H - 30687 - FFAF. POW 3km N of Nieukerk,8km S of Geldern 10.30 hrs ". Alex

Hi,
2Y-S or GW-S ? Posted previously to n°345 sqn (code 2Y) a/c posted to n°340 sqdn (code GW) on 2/11/1944. N°340 came from B55 (Wevelghem) and posted to Biggin Hill without their planes. They exchanged their aircraft with n°345 sqdn which joined B55. Did have time to paint new code on Spitfire ? I do not know Bertrand
