Logbook of Willi Fronhöfer 9./JG 26
I'm sure that everyone is aware that the 1940 photo collection of Oblt Willi Fronhöfer has been published recently. He was shot down and captured 31.8.40 over England and made POW. Does anyone know if his logbook has survived?

I wonder if the museum that had the photos might have it?

Re: Logbook of Willi Fronhöfer 9./JG 26
Jim,
Actually they don't. The photos were provided to them in negative form through a third party, not Fronhöfer himself. I was just there in mid-April, and checked that question out at the time. There are apparently some other photos that were not published in the book in question as I've seen one in the ww2images photo site that obviously came from his collection. So, someone other than the Kent Battle of Britain Musuem has had access to Fronhöfer, and maybe has his logbook, if it survived the war. I think that several of the photos in the published album show the crash-landing on 21.7.40 of four 9 Staffel machines Le Havre, France after running out of gas near Le Havre, France. It appears that Fronhöhfer normally flew "Yellow 3," but that was probably one of the aircraft cracked up on 21.7.40 (probably with Fronhöfer flying it). He was flying "Yellow 10" when he went down on 31.8.40, the same day that the new Staffel Kapitan, Oblt. Heinz Ebeling, was shot down into the channel in a replacement "Yellow 3." Ebeling survived the war POW on 5.11.40, and has provided info that he was flying "Yellow 3," on 31.8.40, so perhaps his FB also survived. Does anyone know that for a fact? Regards, |
