Heinkel lost 17.7.40 Serrance ?
Hi,
Could anybody help with details of an Heinkel 111 lost 17.7.40 KG27. It crashed nr "Ballon de Serrance" 7.6km east of Serrance. Would be keen to discover the crew names if known, location, and exact circumstances leading to loss etc. Best regards, Steve. |

![]() Hello Steve,
"Ballon de Servance" is located few miles north of my home. I could send you copy of maps (contact me off board to give me your adress). It is on the foot of old mountains named "Vosges", east of France, not far from Swiss border. I've got a lost He111 in this area but no date. That could be the right one. Keep in touch. Re: Heinkel lost 17.7.40 Serrance ?
Hi Stephane,
Many thanks for your reply, and confirmation of the area Ballon de Serrance. This ties in exactly with the location i have for a place called Luere Vogesen, and i have since found an entry in the excellent book, The Battle of Britain Then And Now, which out of interest states this a/c crashed and burnt out after a routine domestic flight. The book lists an Oberstzt. Dr Zobel and 4 Nco's killed. Many thanks for your help, im very grateful Stephane. Best Regards, Steve. |

Re: Heinkel lost 17.7.40 Serrance ?
German records give location as "Vogesen 7,6 km ostw. Servance". Crew of 1./KG27 were all killed & buried at Lure: (Ff) Oberfw Hans GRUENDER, (HB) Uffz Viktor LIPINSKI, (Bf) Uffz Franz EBBESMEIER, (Bm) Uffz Heinrich SCHAPPERT along with passenger Oberarzt Dr Hans-Lothar Zobel of I./KG27. Glad that you are finding BoBT&N still useful after 26 years !

Re: Heinkel lost 17.7.40 Serrance ?
Your point Peter about the Battle of Britain Then and Now being 26 years old.
Any chance of an updated version being written ? A great deal of information and relics must have been discovered since its launch. |

Re: Heinkel lost 17.7.40 Serrance ?
Jon,
No plans to publish a revised version at present, though I do keep my own records updated as fresh information comes to hand. I'm busy with the Battle of France as a 'prequel' volume at present. |

Re: Heinkel lost 17.7.40 Serrance ?
Peter, many thanks for your additional information, the details regarding the crew names were most helpful.
Indeed the tome BoBtn after 26years, is still very much thumbed! and is never very far away from my desk! Do you have a provisional publication date yet for your present Battle of France work? Best Rgs Steve. |

Steve,
No date set - I don't work that way. Sometime next year would be my guess. |
