Single crew losses
Would it be possible to find out the identity to single KIA's in bomber crews?
During the restoration of the Cockpit section of U4+TK, the team found remains of a bullet that had pierced through the Navigator Seat, and most probably killing the Navigator instantly. (see: www.ju88.net -> restoration -> cockpit.) regards, Tormod Christiansen webmaster #2, www.ju88.net |

Re: Single crew losses
At that point in time the LW was still developing its loss reporting system for the Gen.Qu. The format changed several times between Sept 39 and July 1940 when they finally settled on the format that lasted to at least the end of 1943. In April, unless a casualty was an officer, it was very seldom one finds the names of aircrew other than the numbers of killed, injured and wounded. The losses are more likely to be found as casualty reports from the WASt.

Re: Single crew losses
Thanks for your reply. I have very little experience with WASt, but is it possible to get access to WASt files without knowing the identity to the airman?

Re: Single crew losses
If you have a date and unit, it might be possible. Otherwise, it is one hell of a request for WASt who take 4 months to reply

Re: Single crew losses
Chris:
An exact date would probably be very difficult, it could range from the transfer of KG30 to Norway and to the abandoning of Jonsvatnet around the 24th of April. Is this too wide for WASt? Soren: Thanks for the remarks, the CF+VP section have been somewhat neglected for some time now of obvious reasons, but we will be updating the footnotes regarding the date of the crash. regards, Tormod Christiansen webmaster #2 www.ju88.net |
