Kampfgeschwader 200

I'm new to this board, so a big HELLO first!
While doing research about my Grandfather, I found out that he was in the misterious KG 200.
He was ground crew member in the IV./KG2 after he was injured by a Flak shrapnel while flying with the KG2, Front Flieger Gruppe. His papers from the WAST have some big white spots, and all his personal files are lost... my mother only knows that he was in Cognac and Budapest, which matches with the IV./KG2 movements during 1943-44. The next info is that he was POW, released june 45 by the British forces as ex-member of KG200.
The WAST file also states that he was Gefreiter, while I have a pic of him showing Hauptgefreiter ranks (three wings) on his collar.

Has anyone infos about the "Klara" group in the KG 200?
It seems the only group noone can locate properly.

Was it in Budapest Ferihegy?

What did the B500 SS parachute in Ferihegy?

I would apprechiate every little info about the KG 200 and the KG 2 as well!!

Best regards,
Argento

Re: Kampfgeschwader 200

Hi Andy,
thanks, I used these links for the research. It appears, that some of the nicknames, eg. Carmen (Bergamo), Olga (Frankfurt/Main and Stuttgart) and Toska (somewhere in Poland?) can be connected to places, while Clara (or Klara) can not.
My grandfather joined the IV.ground support unit of KG2 on the 4th of february 1944, that's where his record stops. The KG200 was formed 16 days later.
The IV./KG2 was in Melun/Villaroche from 8.42 til 4.44 and in Ferihegy from 4.44 til 9.44, where it was subordinated to the Luftflotte Reich. From there the IV./KG2 was split up and the trace is lost.
Find more about ferihegy at: http://www.bud.hu/english/press_room...rticle_hid=560

So, I wonder how, where and when my granddad joined the KG 200...

Best regards,
Argento

Re: Kampfgeschwader 200

Hi Argento,

The B500 SS parachute unit occupied Budapest-Ferihegy airfield at 19. 03. 1944. They come by Junkers 52. For the hungarians were many problem with this unit. They were so aggresive, and didn't lissen for the obeys.
They stolen many materials from the 5/1 Hungarian Night Figther Squadron.
Few parachute started shoot the airfield-radios, and the night figther crews caught them, and give back for the german. Two parachute were shot on the big hangar by german officers.
In this time the airport was closed for three days. My Grandfather (serg. Kálmán Garai) didn't have a fly, just after one week by a Me 210.
After few days B500 left from Budapest, and they went to Jugoslavia to the mountains.

Sincerely, Balazs

Hi Balasz,
thanks for the info. The B500 weren't the nicest it seems
I Hope my grandfather wasn't involved in this incident!!! My mother has some pics showing my granddad in war. Will visit her in the next weeks and take a look at them. Maybe there is a hint on them...
Stay tuned!

Argento
