German Intruders over UK 10th February 1941

Hi,

On return from Hanover on the night of February 10th 1941, a number of crews of 218 Squadron based at RAF Marham reported a solitary JU88 which circled Marham, it closed in on a Wellington but did not engage.

Can anyone confirm if NJG.2 were active on this date.

TIA

Steve

Yes-they were very active from 1948 hrs onwards and claimed 6 aircraft in the early hours of 11 Feb 41. One aircraft reported attacking a Wellington over Marham at 0210 hrs

Hi Steve,

Chris and Nick are right -I've published an elaborate account of the German intruder effort on 10-11.2.41 in the NCA Early Years part 1, including a plotting map of the night's actions. Hope of use.

Cheers, Theo

Carsten-you would get more infirmation from the German side or Simon Parry's book on Fernnachtjagd and of course Theo's books.

Thank you for the information, Chris. I have Simon and Theo's books, but I need more …..

I was looking for information in Freiburg in October, but did not find very much. I am going there again sometime during this winter after I have done a bit more research.

You can find operational information in the Lagebericht & Luftflotte 3 Einzelmeldung but it is a case of working through each day to see what is written. Crew details are not included. I am sure that Theo can suggest more sources but what exactly are you after over and above what has already been published?

I am after how many German intruders operated on certain nights plus what damage they did. Some of them carried 10 x 50 kg bombs. I will check Lageberichte Luftflotte 3.

Luftflotte 3 reports are incomplete as it appears they only covered missions in their AOR
