Meaning of "Sturzkampfgeschwader 2"

I just received a copy of the the Flugbuch and awards certificates on a pilot who according to his EKII Certificate flew with "Sturzkampfgeschwader 2" during the Polish Campaign. For his award of the EK I in July, 1940, probably as a result of flights over France during the Blitzkrieg in the West, the unit is listed as "Sturzkampfgeschwader 2 Immelmann." He was with the Stabstaffel flying Do17s during this period, and briefly flew a T6 coded Ju87B, so I'm sure that this man was a pilot assigned to the Stabstaffel of StG2. However, why do his awards certificates refer to "Sturzkampfgeschwader 2" rather than "Stuka Geschwader 2?"

Thanks,

Re: Meaning of "Sturzkampfgeschwader 2"

"Stuka" is only a German abbreviation for "Sturzkampfflugzeug" (I hope the orthograph is correct), which litterally means : dive-bomber.

So, no need to worry about this (If it had been indicated as "Stuka Geschwader", I would have really wondered about the authenticity of the documents... ).

Hope this can help you,

Kolya.

Of course! Thanks for reminding me of this. Should have been obvious, but wasn't at the moment. My appreciate for taking the time to write.
