Ju-88 & HMS Sirius

Hi,

Colleagues,

On 17 October 1943 Ju-88 bombers in the Mediterranean Sea damaged HMS Sirius. Please tell me which Luftwaffe compound was attack by the Sirius.

The Peter Taghon history of LG 1 credits II/KG 51 as damaging Sirius in the area of Leros .

This from www.naval-history.net diary for HMS Sirius

Deployed in Aegean with HM Destroyers PATHFINDER, ECLIPSE and BEAUFORT.

Reinforced HMS AURORA and destroyers in support of military operations.
Bombarded Cos harbour with HMS AURORA. Under heavy and sustained air attack.

Hit by 250 Kg bomb on quarterdeck and further 4 near misses causing fires aft.

Major damage to armament and radar aerials from splinters.

14 of ship's company were killed and 30 wounded.

Returned to Alexandria.

I read information that there were six attackers Ju-88. Is this information true?

Taghorn shows that Aurora was badly damaged by Ju 87s of StG 3 who also lightly damaged the destroyer Belvoir .

H.M.S. AURORA (12th Cruiser Squadron), H.M.S. PETARD, BEAUFORT, and BELVOIR while proceeding towards the Rhodes Channel were bombed without damaged at 1532 by 2 J.U.88s and again by 13 J.U. 88s in position 36-05N, 29-47E inside Turkish waters. AURORA was hit aft and towed back with BEAUFORT. Her casualties were 47 killed and 30 wounded.

Taghorn p.259/260 - Eight Ju 88s of EinsatzkampfGruppe Ju 88/Gen.d.Fl.Ausb took off from Eleusis at 14.10 hrs to attack the ships these were attacked by 2 Beaufighters of227 Sqd. losing the crews of Lt.Glaser and Uffz Grimm . Later the ships were attacked by Ju 87 of StG 3
