Passing of a triple Ace
From the Hyperscale forum, in case it was not previously noted:
Hello All, One of the nicest WWII veterans that ever walked the planet earth has passed away. Colonel Herschel "Herky" Green. Colonel Green hailed from Hickory, Kentucky and was born on July 3, 1920. He flew with the 325th Fighter Group, "The Checkertail Clan" and was a triple ace. He scored kills in the P-40 (3), the P-47 (10) and the P-51 (5). Making his total score 18 confirmed aerial victories. He also had an additional ten ground kills. His most famous mission came on January 30, 1944 when he shot down six enemy aircraft in one mission. He wrote a superb book on his WWII experiences published by Schiffer Publishing several years ago. His Southern charm and kind and witty personality will be missed by many. God's blessings "Herk".
