7 May 1945 MJ691 Spitfire LF.IX 151 RU

Hi,
On 7 May 1945 MJ691 Spitfire LF.IX of 151 RU made a belly-landing at Wevelgem (Belgium).

Is any additional information regarding this accident available ? Perhaps some details are mentioned in the orb of 151 RU (AIR 29/825/4), of which I have no copy.

Many thanks in advance and best regards

Luc

Re: 7 May 1945 MJ691 Spitfire LF.IX 151 RU

Dag Luc,

MJ691 must have been at Wevelgem/151 RU for repairs after engine trouble on 2 March 1945. That day No. 91 Squadron ORB says that F/Lt. E. Topham made an emergency stop at Liège/A.93 after engine cut on return from Lancaster bomber escort to Cologne. Squadron had taken off and landed at Ursel.

On 7 May 1945 test flight most likely. Pilot's name not found....

Prettige Paasdagen,

Leendert
