Re: KG77 Ju88 crash Waxham Norfolk 5/5/41
You welcome Bill.
I wonder if: a) They were indeed lost on their Navigation (and run out of fuel); or b) They were eventually hit previously by Flak (splinters) and had one or more fuel tanks holed and then run out of fuel. They were lucky to belly land at night and walk away, although some were wounded...Pretty tricky situation by day, one can only imagine by night! There may be (check with Nick Beale, the Moderator of this Board) an Interrogation Report or crash report...this may add something more about their mission, what they passed throughout this last mission, etc...I am not familiar with those reports, but Nick Beale is "the ace" on those matters. Most humbly yours, Adriano |

Re: KG77 Ju88 crash Waxham Norfolk 5/5/41
Bill,
From another secondary source "Air Raid" by Michael Bowyer (1986). Page 179. "Anti-Aircraft gunners too had their successes, as proven by the arrival of Ju 88A-5 W Nr 6027:3Z+EC soon after 04.00 on 5 May off Waxham, Norfolk. It had left Schiphol at 22:42 for Belfast, anti-aircraft fire on the English west Coast piutting the port engine out of action. Bombs were jettisoned and the crew headed for base, albeit with most instrumentation out of use. Trying instead to land on the shore, they hit sand dunes and the aircraft broke up, injuring three of the crew and killing one."
