Re: 446BG crew bailed out on december 27 19944 over Holland or Belgium ?
Anedote surrounding pilot William Woodburn. After his parachute jump, he gets knocked out because of fall, breaks a foot.
When he regains consciousness, he sees himself surrounded by a small dozen men. Because of Woodburn's blonde hair and blue eyes, they think he's a German spy... Luckily a man arrives with some knowledge of English and he's brought to a nearby farm for a drink. A British patrol has heard the rumor about a German spy and breaks into the farm, but Woodburn can convince the British he's an American pilot indeed... Together they go to the crashed B-24 to burn sensitive information and equipment. Via Maldegem a/f Woodburn is sent to a hospital in Brussels and after some time from there back to England for further recovery. Groet, Leendert |
