Barrage balloon vs aircraft wing.... have picture but it is just an assumption?

So talking to a friend, he mentioned that he was told by a P47 pilot that German soldiers had shot cables into the air in a bid to damage the aircraft during a strafing attack.
I said that given the opportunity of shooting multiple rounds per minute from a gun or firing effectively a harpoon in the air, it should be obvious which they would choose.

He then shared this picture with me to try and clarify his point (yes he knows it isn't a Thunderbolt).

My first thought is this is an RAF pilot who has collided with a Barrage Balloon cable and somehow brought it back with him?

Serrated edges of the wire seem to give it away?

Anyway, I searched for the image but had no luck to verify it.

Here's the image, what are your thoughts please?
