B-17 of 96. BG/339. BS lost on 05/31/1944 over Germany
I am looking for any information regarding a crash of this Flying Fortress:
B 17 G, 42-107104, 339. BS/96.BG Code: QJ-D 2nd Ltd Matthew A. Ciembronowicz MACR 5342 target: Osnabrück (not sure) damaged by Flak??? crashed in vincinity of Westerburg only loss of 96. BG that day Thanks!!! TCO |

B-17 31 May 1944
According Snetterton Falcons book on 96 BG QJ-D lost to flak between target and rally point. crashed at Winnen.
All crew were pow. P 2 Lt Mathew Ciembronowicz CP 2LT Scott Limbach N 2Lt Mahlon O'Brien B 2Lt Frank Rahne R T/S Walter Fleming TT T/S Harold Hill BT S/S Benjamin Aishe WG S/S Samuel Kennedy WG S/S Ernest Stephenson TG S/S George Belleville On 6 June 1944 at Braubach Section near the ferry boat at t Goarshausen the American Air force member Sgt amuel Kennedy was observed and captured. .. Kenneday says he jumped out of a downed American bomber by parachute 31 May 1944 and since that time wandered around... he refuses to give information about the place of the downed plane and pisposition of the other crewmembers. Today... he is being transferred to Dulag Luft at Oberursel... Regards, paul peters |

Here is some additional information for you: Mathew Ciembronowicz was a POW @ Stalag Luft 3 Sagan-Silesia Bavaria (Moved to Nuremberg-Langwasser) I hope this helps! John |

According to Snetterton Falcons II A/C 42-107104 had already lost two engines and was calling for fighter escort home. but was too late. Crashed landed at Winnen/Westerburg. Target was Schwerte Soest ( Belgium-German Border)
