Re: Westland Whirlwind P7005 picture
Hello All,
I know my eyesight is not what it used to be but could this possibly be P7095 instead of P7005? If P7095 details are: To 51 MTU 21/07/41 - To 137 Sqn 22/06/42 as SF-H. FTR from Sweep,Crashed near Doullen - Sgt.Brown Killed. Details for P7005: To 39 MU 03/03/41 - To 263 Sqn15/04/41.Returned to works for repair twice during service with 263 Sqn.To 48 MU 06/01/42.To 137 Sqn 08/03/42 - 4 x ROS's with 137 Sqn before FTR from Ops 02/03/43 - Sgt Walker missing. All Details taken from "Whirlwind" by Victor Bingham.Best Regards Keith. |

Re: Westland Whirlwind P7005 picture
Unearthing an old thread, Ed West's latest Ebay post includes one of SF-H:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/175521936656...item28ddec3510 It sure looks like P7005 to me. |

Re: Westland Whirlwind P7005 picture
In the past this aircraft has been identified as P7095 (see Crawford/Listemann Allied Wings No 4)
The problem is that both P7095 and P7005 carried the same code SF-H and on top were lost very close together. P7095 23 Jan 1943 P7005 2 March 1943 However the pilot of P7095 is listed as KIA while the pilot of P7005 is listed as POW. To me the photo shows a very credible landing which in my book you could walk away from any day in the week! So I agree with Andy and think this actually is P7005 and not P7095 Cheers Stig |

Re: Westland Whirlwind P7005 picture
P7095/H came down near Doullens 23 January 1943, pilot killed.
P7005/H missing 2 Mar 43. The photo shows P7095 according to Bowater's book on the Whirlwind. Damage on this aircraft is consistent with Brown's last radio message but his death is a mystery as his body, initially identified as Sgt Manston, was exhumed near Amiens-Glisy 40 miles from the crash site after the war |
