I have seen Feldwebel Hans Troitzsch's "yellow 5" listed simply as a Bf.109"E" and portrayed as an E-1. Since the werke number is known to be 1279, can't the actual variant (E-1 or E-3) be determined? Isn't it likely that "yellow 5" was actually an E-3?

Re: Troitzsch Bf-109E ... -1 or -3?
Based on official Messerschmitt factory documents, the Bf 109 WNr. 1259 was an Erla-built
Bf 109E-3. Quite naturally, if it survived for any time into 1940, it became an E-4 and then, very probably, an E-7. RA |
