Notlandung of Arado Ar 234 S11 140111 at Lechfeld on 8 April 1945?
Good afternoon,
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....pictureid=1694 This poor copy of E-Stelle Rechlin's Oblt. Joachim Eisemann's flugbuch from eBay shows not only the landing gear incident ("fahrwerk schaden") at Lärz on 24 March 1945 mentioned in his profile by deZeng & Stankey, but a notlandung when he transferrer Ar 234 "111" from Lärz to Lechfeld 19:03 to 20:20 hrs on 8 April, which is not mentioned. (Behind the word "notlandung" appears to be "schad..." - schaden?) Is anything more known about this notlandung at Lechfeld on 8 April? Smith & Creek don't mention it. Thanks, Jim |

Thank you, Col. This background is helpful. The date of the 9th corrects my misreading of Eisermann's numeral.

Hello Jim,
the flight log of Eisermann has the following entry: Notlandung, da Platz zerstört, glatt (Emergency landing because airport destroyed) Looks like, that there was no damage on the aircraft. The first numeral of the date of the ferry flight is unreadable on my copy. Regards Dirk |

Does the Flugbuch give a time for this? Bundesarchiv RL 2-II/389 says that Lechfeld was bombed from 17.39–17.48 on 9 April. Numerous high-explosive bombs hit the runways and taxiways badly and several buildings and quarters were damaged.

Re: Notlandung of Arado Ar 234 S11 140111 at Lechfeld on 8 April 1945?
Dirk, you are correct. I failed to see the box that extended his note into the next line. I presume that "glatt" means it went smoothly. Indeed, the date is unreadable and barely matches his other "9"s on the page.
Nick, the times of the flight were 19:03 to 20:20 hours, therefore after the raid. This is consistent with the date being the 9th. |
