Re: Is anyone visiting the AWM in the near future?

Hi all,

A cheeky question. I am needing so open source documents from the AWM, down under. They have told me there is a 10-12 week wait which I am flapping as need this information for my next book - publishers ideally by 17 Dec!

Accession Number PR86/346
Collection type Private Record
Record type Collection
Measurement 13 ITEMS
Object type Papers
Maker Nivison-Smith, Albert R
Date made 1936-1940
Access Open
Related File AWM315 419/037/015

I hope I am not being cheeky in asking.

Thanks

Danny

Re: Is anyone visiting the AWM in the near future?

Hi Danny,

Sorry cannot help with a visit to the AWM in Canberra. Not sure what information you are after although some of the following links may assist. As you probably know Albert was an Australian in the RAF, born in NSW to Robert Henry and Amy Ernestine Nivison-Smith, with birth registered 1918. Hyphenated names can be tricky to research and apparently Nivison-Smith is sometimes listed as Nevison-Smith. There is a file via the NAA under latter which covers the return of personal affects to the family.

regards, Drew

Brill, cheers Drew. I have ordered the documents needed. Hopefully it will not take 10 weeks to come through!

Re: Is anyone visiting the AWM in the near future?

No problem Danny. The AWM have been going through some major renovations over the last few years and I think the research area was also involved in this development. The 10 weeks quoted might be just be a contingency in case the files are in limbo. Also there will be a Christmas break.

I too would be very interested in detail of Nivison-Smith’s service record and postings and/or an exact birthdate should this be included in the files.

Best of luck.

regards, Drew
