Rumanian Hurricane loss

Hi,

Seeking details of a Rumanian Hurricane lost on 22nd September 1944.

This was a piggyback loss as the pilot had also a passenger on board.

Serial number or markings ?

Anyone ?

Alex

Re: Rumanian Hurricane loss, Interesting, :-)

Hi Alex
Strange information, the last know for me lsot of Hurricane was this one (no 8) which was lost during landing in Turkay on 26 VIII 1944.
May I ask where are you have this information from?

I have no information about any ARR Hurricane loss on that date (and month, for that matter). What is your source?

That particular defection happened not on Aug. 26, but three days later. The pilot was 9-ARR victory ace Adj. stag. av. Petre Cordescu (as noted in my book on ARR fighter aces, published by Osprey, page 89).

Re: Rumanian Hurricane loss

Hi Dénes
Thanks for the correction, I have info about 26 VIII but not about 29 VIII 44. The pilot name is the same: Adj. stag. av. Petre Cordescu. He taken the Hurri no 8, maybe from Mamaia or maybe from Cacargeaua - not excact data.

Regards,
mw

Re: Rumanian Hurricane loss

Hello,

My info was incorrect.

The date in the document was 2nd of September and not 22nd September 44.as I had said.
Quite a few days from the 26 or 29th August that you mention.
Is it the same aircraft and event ?

Also there is note of two Croat Blenheims too.

It ia an article from Fleiger Review Extra and lists a/c interned in Turkey from 1940 - 1945 .All Countries.
Re this Hurricane-

JUST A THOUGHT
Could the date of defection be the 29th August and the date of arrival or internment still be the 2nd September ? How long would it have taken the a/c to have flown from Rumania to Turkey with two people on board ?

Alex

Yes, it must have been the same aircraft and incident.
The discrepancy between dates could be explained with clerical reasons.

Re: Rumanian Hurricane loss

The color profile was done according estimation taken from the photo on p. 5 - left corner (not good reprduced). This scan, which I had got it is also not so good anyway my graphic partner had made it after reciving scan, which is a little better visible - the tail part). So he had made this color which is on page 12, it is particular paining there are not on the fin 3 colors strips (?) - the other have them.

Hurri no 7 had own photo on the page 22.

Regards
mw
