Bombing raids in Africa
I'm trying to track down the units responsible for airfield bombings on 22.1.43 and 15.2.43.
Unfortunately, the airfield of the first is unspecified but was home to elements of 2.(H)/14 operating in the Tunis area. The later raid was against Kairouan. Any help narrowing down the field of suspects would be appreciated. regards Adam |

Re: Bombing raids in Africa
Hi
From the book Fighters over Tunisia:- 22-1-43 26 B17's from the 97th and 301st BG, escorted by 16 P38's of the 1st FG, attacked El Aouina, claiming 12 a/c dest and 19 dam on the ground. Two hours later 12 B26's of the 17th BG, escorted by a sqn of P38's from the 82nd FG also attacked El Aouina, followed by 17 B25's escorted by 8 P38's from the 14th FG and 8 from the 82nd FG. 15-2-43 B25's of the 81st and 82nd BS of the 12th BG, attacked Kairouan a/f at 15:40, apparently escorted by P38's of the 1st FG's 94th sqn. cherrs David |
