MACR 4855?

http://www.armyairforces.com/dbmacr.asp

Got me this Result

MACR # Date A/C Type Serial # Group Squadron
4855 5/12/1944 B-17 42-31343 96 338
4855 4/29/1944 B-24 41-29269 450

http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/src/dbMACR.htm

Got me this result

MACR Number Date Aircraft Type AAF S/N Group Sqdn Pilot
4855 44/04/29 B-17 42-31343 96 338 Lewis
4855 44/05/12 B-24 41-29269 450

NOTE THAT THE DATES ARE REVERESED AT EACH SITE!!!

I would tend to go with the later result, because the Pilot’s name is provided, however the 96th Bomb Group Association indicates the Group lost no Aircraft on April 29, 44?

Thanks,
Rob Romero

As for the B24

The corect MACR is 4655

This B24 was from the 720BS of the 450BG.
And was lost due to flack after which she was ditched in the Med some 75 miles off the French coast.
On her 11th mission Harbour Instalations at Toulon.
The full story is on the 450BG Website. Pilot was Oscar J. Anderson.
The crew all survived the ditching but one, the navigator Preston M. McKart died from his injuries and was burried at sea. Later seen by a light a/c a German ship picked up those survivours and they became pow's.

All for now

Alex
