III/NJG5 losses April 45 ?

Hi

Looking for info on the loss of two Ju88G's of III/NJG5 over Blankensee airfield 9/10-4-45 claimed by 406 Sqn and the loss of a Ju88 of III/NJG5 over southen Denmark on the 19/20-4-45 claimed by BSDU. I have both of Michael Balss books on NJG losses and found no losses listed but John Foreman's Fighter Command War Diaries vol 5 says these Ju's came from NJG5.

Many Thanks for any help.

David

Re: III/NJG5 losses April 45 ?

Hello David,

the losses of 09 April are confirmed by III./NJG 5's war diary. The group's CO, Hauptmann Engel, had been downed by night fighters, but he and his crew managed to bail out uninjured. Oberleutnant Breitfeld, one of the group's Staffelkapitaene, was also attacked successfully and died in his Ju 88, while his W/Op and Mechanic successfully bailed out.

April 20: Oberfeldwebel Blank's Ju 88 shot down by Mosquito while on a ground support mission in the Cottbus area. No losses.
