Looking for a book

Hi

I'm looking for book (as I recall) called "Ace" it came out in the mid 80's.

Its a fictional story of a Luftwaffe pilot who starts out in the Battle Of Britian, has an affair with a Jewish women in France, get transferred to Russia, then to the Western front flying against American daylight raids and finally shot down by "friendly" fire a the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge.
I've tried Alibris and ABE. If ayone can point me in the right direction or knows what the heck I'm talking about give me a shout at: mongotzu@sasktel.net

Mike

Wink Re: Looking for a book

You sure it's fiction? Sounds similar to some "veterans' " claims we've heard about on this board !

Re: Looking for a book

Hannes Trautloft had a half-jewish fiancé (Munich-born Marga Mayser) from 1932 til he married her in 1945, but he never wrote about that. He could have climbed up the ranks much higher than he actually did, but chose to stay by his love and protect her.

Kurt:

I vaguely remember reading such a book back when I was looking for LW fiction...the 'Ace' in question was shot down during Bodenplatt; the only other stuff I remember is that the author was Canadian;

Re: Looking for a book

I'm pretty sure it was written by Spencer Dunmore (I believe the husband or father of Helen Dunmore who wrote a novel about the siege of Leningrad). If I recall correctly, my paperback had a stark drawing of a diving Bf 109 on the cover. It wasn't a bad read- but not as good as Derek Robinson.

Best,

Robert Forsyth
