Any data about victories got by the Fw-190D....

of the JV-44 staffel protection unit exists??? Particulary by Heinz Sachsenberg??'
I think that no data about air victories are recorded by this unit and Sachsenberg got his last victory at Oct 1944, #104, vs a Soviet fighter.

Regards

Jose Luis

I'd need to re-check Robert Forsyth's book on JV 44 but I'm not even sure that the Schwarm ever engaged in combat with enemy aircraft.

Note that J.Crandall as well as R.Forsyth state that this claim was more probably on 2 or 3rd of May and flying "red 13"...

And Feldwebel Bodo Dirschauer flew altogether 12 sorties with the WurgerStaffel between is arrival on 12th of April and his last fly on the 28th April.

The WurgerStaffel got no right to break off and chase the enemy. Their job was only to take off, usually one or two rotte at a time, just before the 262 and to give them a 1500m high umbrella protection. Then to land immediatly after the 262 had gone.

The WurgerStaffel lasted around three weeks only!

Re: Any data about victories got by the Fw-190D....

The 355th FG lost one P-51D to a 190D at Ludwiglust and shot one down, damaged another. The date was 4 April 1945. One flight of 4 saw four Fw190D's circling the town and pursued them in and out of the cloud cover.

They were in a cat and mouse chase with a ceiling around 1500 feet. Al White shot one down while another dropped unseen from the cloud cover and shot down Lt Mills, then climbed back and escaped. Lt Truell followed another in a split S and both crashed near the town.

Regards,

Bill

This would be the wrong end of Germany for JV 44's operations. Ludwigslust is about 50 km South of Schwerin.

Nick - I was pretty sure these were JGr 10(?) and not JG44 but ya never know so I threw it out -

The units were moved around a lot in the last 30 days. Also, there were no claims (published) by LW in this area so possible the shooter in the 190D was also a victim in the same fight.
