The postwar history of the 405th Fighter Group states that on 8th November 1944, 1st Lieutenant Homer Smith was taken prisoner and 1st Lieutenant Frank Greene was KIA. Both pilots were from the 511th squadron. The group was based at A-64 (St. Dizier, France) and flew about 80 sorties over the Metz sector that day. The cause of the two losses was not explained in the narrative and there was no mention of entanglements with German fighters. I do not know the serial numbers of the Thunderbolts or where they crashed.

T'Bolt serial numbers are given as -
42-26239 and 42-27311. MACR's were 10194 and 10195.
