Junkers 88 force-landed at Oakington 1940
Hi everyone,
I am now writing yet another book, this time on Cambridgeshire, thanks to everyone from this website who helped with the last one. I am very interested in an incident that took place on Oakington aerodrome on 19th September 1940. No 17 Squadron Hurricanes had engaged a solitary Junkers 88A5 over Suffolk, after damaging its port engine, the combat seemed to stop and the Junkers flew on losing height escorted by two Hurricanes. Anyway eventually it made a belly landing on a grass strip at Oakington aerodrome in Cambridgeshire, England and the crew were captured. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who knows any further details (I do have crew names and several eye-witness accounts but am always on the look out for new info) The Junkers 88 belonged to the Reconnaissance Unit 4(F)./121 please could someone let me know where this unit was based on September 19th 1940......some say Caen others state Villacoublay in France. Kind regards Julian PS I can be contacted privately if anyone wishes on j.evenhart@ntlworld.com |
