10/05/1940 1./KG1 He111 V4+KL
Hi !
On 10/05/1940 Fw. Wilhelm Wübbe, radio operator, of the above mentioned plane lost his live when his plane was shot down by French Flak. Although the plane is reported to have crashed at Leugnies (Belgium), he was first buried at Houx (Belgium), which is aprox.61 km from Leugnies. Is it possible that his plane crashed at another place ? Waremme (Belgium) has also been mentioned... Many thanks and best regards Luc |

Re: 10/05/1940 1./KG1 He111 V4+KL
Luc,
I have the following: 3./KG1 Heinkel He111H. Starboard engine disabled in attacks by Adjt Moret of GC III/2 following bombing of Amiens airfield and belly-landed at ‘Waremme’, near Leugnies-Grandieu, south-west of Beaumont 5.10 a.m. Fw W. Wübbe killed. Lt W. Seel and Oberfw O. Odenbach captured unhurt. Fw W. Neuhaus captured wounded. Aircraft V4+KL a write-off. |

Peter,
Many thanks for your - as always - very complete reply. I haven't been able to find the location " Waremme " in the area of Leugnies-Grandrieu. It is of course possible that this local name is no longer in use. best regards Luc |
