Luftwaffe fighter losses 22.06.1941 - (29.01.1945)

Hi, guys.

Just wanted to let you all know that the work on the summary loss records of the Luftwaffe fighter units is now completed.

What does this really mean? Well, it means that we now have the numbers of aircraft lost by the Luftwaffe fighter units by date and category for all aircraft losses reported to the GenQu6Abt from the start of 'Barbarossa' until end of January 1945.

The reason I have been working on this is that I would like to have an overview of all aircraft lost during 1944, a period where the detailed GenQu6Abt loss records are largely missing from the archives.

It is a great starting point for further research, and the '1944 project' webpages will probably be finished and up and running during the week I have dedicated to Luftwaffe research in Freiburg at the end of this month.

The records have all been recorded into a normalized SQL server database, and thus it is fully searchable for all kind of queries one could want to try out on the data. Thus the 21839 individual record rows giving a total of 27590 aircraft losses are now ready to be further researched.

What it also means is that the losses that are registered in the detailed loss database are linked to these records, and thus an instant overview of what losses we have information on and what losses still only have the basic information available is easy to locate.

I hope that the '1944 project' will attract interest from the community and help us to piece together a much better overview of that devastating year for the Luftwaffe fighter arm.

Researchers and authors that are interested in parts of this information in order to enhance or control their own research are welcome to contact me off-board

Regards,
Andreas Brekken

(PS! The Schlachtgeschwader are almost finished also, as well as a range of other units)
