Photo-recce P-47 in Força Aérea Brasileira
I am looking for info on the Força Aérea Brasileira P-47s that had a recce camera installed in the left bomb pylon. I want to build one, so I am looking for photos (if possible) of the modded aircraft.

Re: Photo-recce P-47 in Força Aérea Brasileira
Hi Larry!
I am a Brazilian Commercial pilot and do have the photograph and actually more information about the pilot who flew the P-47 D with that particular adaptation. I will scan and try to send it to you tomorrow. Can you put here an e-mail address for contact? I am leaving for a dinner in 20 minutes, but tomorrow I do guarantee you I will put the photo here, ok! Up tomorrow! Adriano Baumgartner |

Hi my friend.
I scanned the photos for you, but am unable to post them due to the huge Mb size of each file. Please send me your e-mail, this way I can send you some interesting stuff and material, ok? I will try to post some photos here, but am not sure if this will work. Yours Adriano PS: the photos are ready!! |

Re: Photo-recce P-47 in Força Aérea Brasileira
It did not work.
However, I can affirm that from the books and magazines I researched, only 3 P-47D were thus modified ( to carry a K-25 camera ) on the left bomb pylon. I obtained photos for you. One of this aircraft was the P-47D-25-RE, serial 42-26756 flown by 1Lt Alberto Martins Torres ( aircraft codes A4 ) who flew 100 missions and was awarded the American DFC for sinking the U-199 while on an early Patrol mission aboard a Catalina of our Air Force. He is considered our TOP fighter pilot of WW2 and sadly already passed away. I do have some photos of him and his bird for you as well. So, send me your e-mail, please, ok! Re: Photo-recce P-47 in Força Aérea Brasileira
OK, it seems that worked now! Uf!
First picture: Brazilian Air Force WW2 Medals and Flying Crosses ( Rio de Janeiro Museum ) Second photo: Graves of Brazilian Air Force 1st Fighter Group pilots KIA Third: The K-25 installation on the left bomb pylon. It seems it was home-made, as we can see some kind of door below!? ( photo on an Article published by Jackson Flores, in Air Enthusiast N.61 of Jan-Feb 1996, pg 14 ) Fourth photo: 2 Lt Pedro de Lima Mendes ( in the middle ) flanked by his aircraft´s maintenance crew. It was this pilot who hand-made the Ensign of ALL P-47 D of our 1st Fighter Group ( the famous SENTA À PUA emblem ). He was a very capable painter ( ? do not know if this is the correct word )... There are more, but huge in size...I will repost them tomorrow for you, ok? Hope to have helped...if you can, I do know that some 1-48 scale decals of some SENTA à PUA P-47 D are made in Brazil. I can try to find out the site for you... All the best Larry! Please call if you do need more...I will try to post some colour pics here for you from a Museum not far from home.. Re: Photo-recce P-47 in Força Aérea Brasileira
More data:
A-4 1/48 scale model, the aircraft flown by 1/Lt Alberto Martins Torres ( 100 missions ) A-6 an aircraft that lost 1,28m of the right wing when colliding with a tower during a mission. The pilot, Aspirante Canário brought it back to base using a lot of aileron and rudder! All the best Adriano Baumgartner Last edited by Adriano Baumgartner; 21st August 2015 at 12:38. |
