Re: P-51 Gun Cam ID help

Researcher111,

Please don´t take me wrong. What I meant to say is that I have not seen a reliable (preferably primary) source confirming that Evstigneev made an Fw 200 claim in early April 1944 and it would be unwise to rely on his memoirs. I have never said that all Russian claims were highly exagerated or even bogus stories (although I believe this is the case with "Kozhedub´s Mustangs", unless proven otherwise). What I meant to say is that VVS, on some occassions, overclaimed heavily (e.g. during the battles over Kuban or in the first days of the Battle of Kursk in July 1943) as did other air forces as well. Some VVS units/pilots were more accurate than others - this is often valid e.g. for PVO regiments that very often intercepted lone recce aircraft or bombers, which enabled higher claim accuracy. But we have gone far from the topic of this thread so we can leave it here.

Yes agreed to leave it here , and I don't agree with the rest .Evstigneev may have confused the FW200, however he was one of the finest pilots of the Soviets and Allied Exp.Forces, his memoirs are rather accurate .As a tribute for his great Airmanship he was awarded by the Brits membership of the British Empire Order class 5 while still on the Romanian front for his part on the liberation of Moldavia something even Kojedub, didn't qualify for.
