Re: WNr.1988: Bf109 E-3 or E-4 ?

Another anomaly perhaps:
Page 431 of Luftwaffe Camouflage & Markings Volume 2. A photo of a Bf109E with the later canopy and pointed spinner cap (E-7) wavy camouflage with the WNr.7667 painted on it's cowling. Captioned as being CD+ED.

According to Vogt this was a Fieseler built Bf109E-7 (01/41 - 03/41)
According to the Übersichtliste a Fieseler built Bf109E-1

Could there be some confusion with an upgraded E-1?

Talking Re: WNr.1988: Bf109 E-3 or E-4 ?

Hi to all,

by deduction system I find that following W.Nr. maybe ended in Royal Yugoslav Air Force (before june 1940):

2179-2188

2311-2350

2365-2371

2382-2384

2387, 2389, 2391, 2393

2395-2402

2414.

This list are reconstruction so I don't pretend that it is 100% correct. What do You think?

kind regards

Re: WNr.1988: Bf109 E-3 or E-4 ?

Newcomer,

I was intrigued by your results because this span of werknummern remains a vast gray area because so little has been published when it comes to those Emils supplied to Yugoslavia 1939 up to April 1940. If I may, I would like to add my own provisional findings.

2179-2188 * I agree
2311-2350 * I have 2314 - 2350
2365-3271 * I have 2365 - 2372
2382-2384 * I agree
2387,2389,2391,2393 * I have 2388, 2389 - 2391, 2393 - 2402
2395-2402 * I have 2393 - 2402
2414 * I have 2410 - 2416, 2424, 2436, 2444

Beyond 2444, I believe we are working in 1940.

Even the total number of Emils actually delivered to Yugoslavia remains somewhat vague because we see totals of 73 up to 82 depending on your source.

Perhaps this line of research should be in a new thread as it really has nothing to do with W.Nr. 1988?

Perhaps too, there are others out there who have better Yugoslavian references?

Hal

Harold,

I'm agree with You. I put it here because nobody answered on my message in other thread. But it is the job of admin.

The WNr showed here I didnt find, before June 1940, used by Luftwaffe or other air force, so I concluded that belonged to Royal Yugoslav Air Force. Beside 73 Me-109 E-3a, RYAF also acquired in June 1940 12 repaired Emils, and in February or March 1941 another 15 repaired Emils, although Yugoslavian authorities asks Germans till the last moment for 27 new Emils. Thos 27 repaired aircraft maybe explained existence of RYAF Emils with WNr 2513 and 2526, captured by the Germans in April 1941, when Yugoslavia invaded by the Germany, Italy and Hungary.

From yugoslav sources I only find one Wnr (2347/L-52/2551) read from the photo. And that's all.

kind regards

Hi

I find your lists of the Bf109E-3 sold to the Yugoslav Government very interesting. I have W/Nr 2433 with the export registration of D-IYWX dated 12-39. Do you have anymore information giving W/Nrs with export registrations?

Regards
Tom Willis

which "Luftwaffe Camouflage & Markings"? There are several with that title, including German.

As for splitting this thread, I'll be glad to if that what is wanted?
