RAF Losses 8 Sep 40
I have a piece of RAF roundel on the back of which is scratched '8.9.1940 1413 uhr'. Any ideas as to from what this could have come; the only one that springs to mind is a 107 Sqn Blenheim but was this lost at night?

Re: RAF Losses 8 Sep 40
Chris,
According to Tony Wood's Luftwaffe claims website, there were three Blenheim claims: Oblt. Ludwig Franzisket 7./JG27 Calais 13.42 hrs Oblt. Rudolf Busch 3./JG51 Channel no time given Ltn. Heinz Altendorf 7./JG53 no location 15.15 hrs Perhaps one of these matches your request? Regards, Leendert Brugge/Belgium |

Re: RAF Losses 8 Sep 40
#600 Squadron, RAF Fighter Command, acknowledges the loss of a Blenheim on September 8, 1940. The serial number of this aircraft was L1111. The crew of this particular Blenheim was H.B.L. Hough, E.C. Barnard and A. Smith. It appears that Hough and Smith were both killed in this aircraft.
I don't know if this is the Blenheim in question, but I found it interesting nonetheless. |

Re: RAF Losses 8 Sep 40
Hi CHRIS I too can only find at the moment L1111 Blenheim at Basingstoke at 21.30 HRS. When i first saw your enquiry, I thaught it may well be 1413 HRS (uhr) looks and sounds like it has German origins. UHR= watch/dock or time. 1413 is in the middle of the Luftwaffe claims, so maybe. As a rule most civilian people in the UK only use 12hr ckock. Maybe the military used 24 hr. BUT, UHR smacks of German or Dutch ? Do you know the history of it before you got it, apart from the time of its collection as a momento. would be nice to find out. If you DO find out ....let us know.
