Re: Photos 1-16
Hi Ed,
Thanks for the interesting photos! Some comments: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120210550692 Apparently a Fi 156 from Kurierstaffel Finnland (Or Norwegen?) http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120211016422 Page 59 in “JG 26 Photographic History of the Luftwaffe’s Top Guns” by Caldwell, Airlife, 1994, has a photo showing this Bf 109. Captured as Priller’s Bf 109 F-2 taken in St. Omer Arques on 25 November. That picture is sourced from the Bundesarchiv, which is not surprising as there is a PK photographer with a movie camera in front of the aircraft which is partly hidden as well as the photo is cropped in front of the cockpit. I assume there are other pictures from this very day and aircraft? http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320207643758 A Hs 126 with an emblem which according to Ketley and Rolfe “Luftwaffe Embleme 1939-1945”, emblem #680 might perhaps be from Aufkl.Gr. 41 or a (H) Staffel. Anyone who knows more about this? Emblem has an oak leaf in white outline above two service rank symbols on a shield. The emblem seems to be also on this aircraft photographed in France 1941 according to the seller: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320207642385 There is a series of photos from a reconnaissance unit at the seller’s site. One Hs 126 with the same emblem might have “5K+xx” code (if it is not “SK+xx”) which might lead the thoughts towards a unit affiliated with KG 3. Taken in Russia in 1942 according to the seller. http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200192635962#ebayphoto hosting A He 111 from what looks like Norway. Unit emblem partly visible on one photo but I have not found a match yet. Victory markings indicating four sunken/damaged ships. A flugbuch for sale from same seller might connect to these photos: http://cgi.ebay.de/3x-Original-Flugbuch-viele-Feind-und-Frontfluege_W0QQitemZ200192642134QQihZ010QQcategor yZ15509QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Attacks on ships described, tonnage etc. Seller claim the pilot was from "JG 26" but aircraft types and missions rather matches a KG 26 pilot which in turn is also more in line with the He 111 pictures which I believe are from the same collection. There are also other photos from same album sold. One aircraft might carry F8+xx and relate to KG 40: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200192633954 Cheers Goran |

Re: Photos 1-16
Hi Goran,
your He 111 could be from the I/KG26 - for me it`s black Lion on the white shield. Regards Robert |

Thanks. The lower part of the emblem most probably shows the legs of the KG 26 lion symbol. The shield on the other hand seems to be white at the lower end and dark coloured or having a dark band further up, which does not match the usual style. A variation? Something else fooling the eye? Re: Photos 1-16
Studying the KG 26 emblem on the He111 I now realize that what seems to be the dark parts of the emblem in fact are the exhaust ejectors on the starboard side of the engine obscuring parts of the emblem.
Fooling the eye..... Goran |

Re: Photos 1-16
Yes indeed ... but this a/c is still very interesting: just look at that makeshift exhaust shield at the inboard side of the stbd engine; it's certailnly not the normal flame damper.
