SEARCHING FOR LUFTWAFFE PILOT/PLANE
I am researching an article about the loss of 300 Squadron (RAF), Lancaster bomber, BH-U (serial # LM178) on night of 24 July 44. The Lancaster came down north of St Laurent des Bois, about 5 km northeast of the small town of Marchenoir, France. Discussion with one of the aircrew indicates that the night-fighter that shot them down came from an airfield called Moysey (this is phonetic spelling, I am sure that it's correct spelling is different than how I have spelled it).
How would I find out which Luftwaffe squadron the night-fighter came from and would it be possible to find out the name of the pilot who flew the night-fighter? Thank you very much for your assistance. |

Re: SEARCHING FOR LUFTWAFFE PILOT/PLANE
Boujour Monsieur Charpentier
I will be interviewing F/S Sam Dunseith, tail gunner, next week. He was 1 of 3 survivors of the crash. The other 2 have since died. Savez vous Sam? Avez vous vu l'avion comme il tombait du ciel? Est le morceau d'avion que vous avez un morceau de BH-U? Merci beaucoup. John Martinello, Brighton, Ontario, Canada |

Re: SEARCHING FOR LUFTWAFFE PILOT/PLANE
Orleans within 30 kms of Marche Noir; Strasbourg within approx 500 km of Marche Noir, so it must have been II/NJG 2 night-fighter. Do you know if there is internet access to Operations Record Book for II/NJG 2 or how else I could find pilot & night-fighter involved?
Thank you very much for assistance. |

Re: SEARCHING FOR LUFTWAFFE PILOT/PLANE
First of all, no such things as an ORB for the Luftwaffe; Kriegstagebuch yes but I am not certain that such thing still exists, likewise the combat reports. Claims were:
II/NJG 2 Maj Paul Semrau NW Orleans 0001 hrs, Orleans 001 hrs 6/NJG 2 Lt Erich Jung SE Orleans 0012 hrs Hptm Hubert Rauh II?NJG 2 (missed this one!) NW Orleans 0017 hrs There was another claim by Ofw Willi Glitz of Stab/NJG 2 in area BC-CC; not had a chance to match this up with a location |

Re: SEARCHING FOR LUFTWAFFE PILOT/PLANE
The Erich Jung kill mentioned above was Lancaster ND560 (DX-N) of 57 Squadron – my uncle was flight engineer on this aircraft.
