Finnish Junkers Ju 88 recovery

The Finnish Police cooperation with the Defence Forces have been excavation the crash site of "JK-254" for some time now. The plane crashed on 1st July 1944 on route to Karelian Isthmus. The main consern was/is the bombs. One SC250 has been blown up.

Hi Martti;

I wonder is the parts recovered from the lake to be put in museum or are they sold as scrap. Is it possible to get in touch with someone concerning this.

All the "war stuff" (in Finland) are property of Finnish Defence Forces and thus property of Finnish Military Museum.

Sodan aikana Liperiin pudonneesta Junkers-pommikoneesta on löydetty toinen lentopommi. Järven pohjasta löydetty pommi on samanlainen 250 kilon lentopommi kuin ensimmäinenkin, joka räjäytettiin paikan päällä vajaat pari viikkoa sitten. Toinen pommi pyritään hävittämään Rauvanselällä vielä loppuviikon aikana. Töiden vuoksi vaara-alue joudutaan jälleen eristämään ja lähitalot evakuoimaan.

Junkersin hylystä on nostettu tällä viikolla koneen vasen moottori. Torstaina paikalta löydettiin myös oikeanpuoleinen moottori. Se nostetaan pintaan myöhemmin. Kaikki hylystä löytyvät osat ja esineet luovutetaan aikanaan Keski-Suomen Ilmailumuseolle.]

A second SC250 has been found. Also they have located both engines and the left one has been raised.
