Oesau Image question

We're all somewhat familiar with this image.

http://pilotosdelaluftwaffe.tripod.c...sauavi-fa1.jpg

My question is - I seem to remember reading somewhere that that isn't Oesau's plane, but rather, Balthasar's aircraft.

Can I find it anywhere in my books? Of course not!

But I know I read it somewhere.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this? And if so, can a source be found that states this? I'm helping a friend with research for his Wikipedia entry on Oesau.

Many many thanks in advance,

Cori

Shoot. Lemme see if I can get it again.

That one might work. It's HUGE, but you can see the werknummer in the background.

Re: Oesau Image question

Both Balthasar and Oesau used this machine. Oesau took the machine when he replaced Baltasar as Gr.Kdr of III./JG 3. The markings were altered a bit after Oeasu started using the machine.

Re: Oesau Image question

According to John Weal's Book on JG 2, Oesau always wanted his aircraft to be simple and without decorations. So are you saying that he'd let the markings remain may be as a remembrance to Balthasar ? I know they have been working together before.

Thanks in advance for your time.

I'm glad you did - I only hope that you can get the assistance you need here - this is a great site, if a little hard to crack into at times.

I already told you how I feel out of the "loop" so to say because of my gender.

I love this site, though - it never fails to unearth some wonderful gems.

Believe me, you are not out of the 'loop' for any reason, including gender. You are well in the loop. You've just got to understand that most of the researchers/writers who frequent here (including myself) are nutcases/lunatics about our hobby, and it shows in rather perverse ways at times.

Keep pursuing your research on Oesau, you'll get there in the end.
