Fw. Otto Unertl 9./JG77 KIA 25-April-1941

I am currently researching Feldwebel Otto Unertl 9./JG77 KIA 25-April-1941, shot down by Flak near Nauplion, Greece.

I know that Unertl was flying a Bf-109 E-7 however, I would appreciate it if anyone could identify the Werk Nr. or even the fuselage code of the machine. Furthermore, I would like to find out if possible the details of the JG77 missions for that date.

As always, any help is very well received.

Regards Richard.

Feldwebel Otto Unertl

Hello Richard

This is what I have found concerning the loss list information on this pilot.

25 April 1941: Feldwebel Otto Unertl of 9./JG 77 killed in Bf 109 E-7 (W.Nr. 4921) by Flak near Argos, 100%

I hope this helps.

Horrido!

Leo that is indeed a help, thank you very much.

Is anyone able to shed any light on III./JG77 field of operations on this and the days leading up to it?

As always, all help will be very well received.

Regards Richard.

Tasos and Byron, many thanks indeed for your help with my request.

I am still trying to ascertain the nature of JG77's operations on that day and the immediate days preceeding.

Still hopeful in anticipation.

Regards Richard.

Hi I know that this is un old thread but since I am reserching the the events that took place in my home town Nafplio (also refered as Nauplia or Navplion),

I found some very very interesting pictures in Australian War Museum photo search as in the links below

The place that the plane crashed is very near to my house

If you have any more info please contact me,

Hello tgsdim,
Is the place known exactly where the plane came down? Do any story of the locals exist about this?
Regards,

Re: Fw. Otto Unertl 9./JG77 KIA 25-April-1941

Hello Aviator

The place is known and located exactly, http://maps.google.com/maps/myplaces?ll=37.576968,22.809951&spn=0.001278,0.001 808&ctz=-180&t=h&z=19

I spoke to the land owner, he was about 5-6 years old at that time an he only heard the story from his father and friends. They said that the plane was totally destructed and they found only the boots of the pilot

Only this so far...

Re: Fw. Otto Unertl 9./JG77 KIA 25-April-1941

Hello,

during my researches on JG 77, I have been in touch with Unertl's family.
They had not much, but a document saying the following could be of help for you:
30.12.1941:

Hope that it helps.

Best regards

Erik
