Is there someone who can help me how to convert these wartime coordinates into recent ones : VK 176508

Longitude : 0° 06' 47'' W

WNW of Le Mans.

The information is correct...I have a copy of an American map of this area.
But I have also a question : What is the meaning of the letters VK ,

I could be wrong but I don't think it "means" anything, it's just some letters to identify that grid square on the map.

This site explains the system.
