Sorties vs Ships Sunk
Continuing some earlier research, I am trying to identify the relationship between the number of aircraft sorties and ships sunk. Some interesting data afor the Channel battle of summer 1940 turned up, which was my focus then. Now for comaprison I'm searching for sources/data for other battles: Norway, Crete, the central Med surrounding Malta, ect... any refrences, data, or discussion would be welcome
Thanks |

Hello Carl
You might find some info from Christina J.M. Goulter's A Forgotten Offensive. Royal Air Force Coastal Command's Anti-Shipping Campaign, 1940-1945 (1995) Juha |

Re: Sorties vs Ships Sunk
The best documented studies, I believe, were by the US in the Pacific and CBI theatres. These were at the Naval Operational Archives in Washington but may have now gone to the National Archives.
OPERATIONS RESEARCH IN THE RAF, the older volume, includes some of the use of OR in anti-ship tactics that may be able to point you to studies at Kew. The most efficient anti-shipping attack of the European war was, to my knowledge, the German one that sank two of their own destroyers in 1939.
