Hi Melvin,

Do215 0029 of 4(F)/Ob.d.L hit by enemy fire (AA?)on a mission to London Bf Ogef. Konrad Poobl (Pobl) +, Bm Gef. Josef Nausch wounded. The degree of damage is covered by a large tick but possibly under 10% so it looks like aircraft landed,

Hi Brian, Many thanks, there are further details written in the WASt Verlustmeldung, unfortunately it is a tif file and I cannot seem to convert it to jpeg to get it on the site, any ideas?

Regards

Melvin

Thanks Brian, managed to convert it!

Have now attached text regarding incident in the WASt Verlustmeldung. Can someone please translate it for us so that we can add the details to Konrad's page of remembrance, of course you will be credited on the page.

Kind regards,

Melvin

Cheers, Franck.

Re: Konrad Pöbl (F) + 13.11.40

@ Melvin,

hopefully my translation attempts did not turn out too much faults. Combat report reads as follows:

"Aircraft was flying at 7.600 m height course West upwart Thames. At Tilbury pilot and observer recognized an english fighter at 8.000 m in a distance of 400-500 m. They reported this immediately to the rest of the crew. The fighter promptly started attack. Radio operator and board mechanic instantly fired three or four bursts. Already in the first run-up of the english fighter the radio operator (Obergefreiter Konrad Pöbl) was killed. Meanwhile the aircraft was attacked by a second english fighter. In the second fighter run-up the board mechanic (Gefreiter Josef Nausch was wounded). After the second attack the fighters turned off. The Do 215 immediately started a dive after turning the aircraft when the fighters had been spotted. Liquid coolant temperature of the starboard engine climbed up to 120° and so the engine was switched off. Heading course East by single motor flight in a cloud ceiling at 2.000 m and 6/10 cover the aircraft was reaching island Walcheren. By hitting the continent course was set Southwest until reaching river Seine, then following Seine upwart to Paris Orly. For landing procedure the second motor was started again and a safe landing was possible.
The Obgefr. Pöbl was buried at hero cemetary Meaux."

Best Regards
Norbert

Hi Norbert,

Thank you so much for taking the time to help with the translation - great effort! I have now completed the page of remembrance and sent on to our webmaster. I have credited you on the page using your first name Norbert, can you tell me your surname.

Regards

Melvin
