Me 262 units
The last air combat claims for Me 262s by British Commonwealth pilots appear to have been made on the 2/5/45.
F/O GN Smith, 411 Sqn: Me 262 dam, approx 11.30, 5 m SW Lubeck P/O JI Adams (RAAF), 3 Sqn: ditto, approx 20.50, 10 m E Kiel I'd like to know what LW unit/s were engaged and if any losses/damage are recorded. Thanks, Bruce |

Re: Me 262 units
Dear Bruce,
By 2/5/45 I assume you mean 2 May 1945. The issue here is that on the eastern side of the pond it is fairly rarely written 2/5/45 and on the western side of the pond it is always written 5/2/45. The safest way to be sure all know what you mean is to write either 2 May 1945 (eastern side and some western side) or May 2, 1945, strictly western side. Beyond that, the only fairly sanctified shortcut is to write it in "purely" European style as 2.5.45. I put that in quotes, as I've seen some advertisers here on the western side try to get cute with 5.2.45 and want to shoot them. The decimal system, as far as I'm concerned, is "copyright" European and should remain that way. Regards, Richard |

Re: Me 262 units
I really think it's a case of 'each to his own' Richard. And I definitely don't live on either side of the pond you're referring to!
Could these have been a/c of 2/NAG 6? |

Re: Me 262 units
Dear Bruce,
By "pond", I meant Atlantic Ocean. Since TOCH! membership is international, presenting a date in a manner that all know what you mean is important. I live in the U.S. For my private use, I would use 5/2/45 or 05-02-45, but recognize that would be misleading to a correspondent in Europe. Alas, Me 262 operations are not my specialty. Others on the site will need to address your question. Regards, Richard |

Re: Me 262 units
I'm in the states as well. I adopted the dd-mmm-yy standard, and have both of my pcs set to that format. There is no mistaking what the date is supposed to be and no fussing with changing the format based on the recipient of any data I post or send. And the best part, I can type in 1-1-41 and it converts to 01-Jan-41 on its own!

Re: Me 262 units
Thanks for those responses, Richard and Jim. I 'hear what you're saying' and will try to compromise in the future.
Cheers, Bruce |
