Seeking ID of Bf110C of probably I./ZG1 with "hunter's horn" insignia on nose during 1939-40
Hello,
Does anyone have any information on this "hunter's horn" probably personal insignia: unit, pilot, place or date? http://ihra.smugmug.com/photos/i-4Mk...-4MkFNZz-L.jpg Also seen on a Bf110 "hack" a/c in NJG1 late in 1940 or possibly 1941. Who can help? Larry Hickey EoE Project Coordinator |

Re: Seeking ID of Bf110C of probably I./ZG1 with "hunter's horn" insignia on nose during 1939-40
Hello Larry,
Glad to be able to help: this horn was used on an old Bf110B of the I./NJG 1 which was used for 'postal' duties and the fuselage marking G9+ZK reveals that it was on the inventory of the 2./NJG 1. All the best, Marcel / Venlo

Re: Seeking ID of Bf110C of probably I./ZG1 with "hunter's horn" insignia on nose during 1939-40
Marcel,
Thanx for taking the time to answer. We knew that this was on B110B W.Nr.922, G9+ZK as a "hack" a/c from the summer of 1940 until it crashed at Venlo 11.10.41. There is actually an eBay auction pending right now for a photo of this a/c. What I take to be a "hunter's horn" may actually be a traditional German postman's horn announcing the delivery of mail. This would be in keeping with the use of the Bf110B for mail delivery. However, my presumption is that this was originally the personal insignia of a pilot in I./ZG1, who may have transferred to I./NJG 1 when his original unit was disbanded. This may not be the case, but I'd like to see if there are any other images of it out there on a I./ZG1 Zerstörer. Regards, Larry Hickey EoE Project Coordinator |
